The essence of a gentleperson

I wanted to create a character that captured the character of the Century Ballroom without alluding to a specific dance style. These are three scratchboard sketches where I played with different types of styling. I really wish I'd made the cane point in towards the feet. /sigh/

Self-portraits?

Many an art teacher has said amateurs tend to use their own features when doing portraits — it has something to do with what our mind is most familiar with, and a tendency to draw what we think is there rather than what we're actually looking at. I tend to draw very large noses. I'll just leave it at that.

A quick sketch of my roommate's long-time friend. She's a little shy sometimes, but I was dressed as a ninja, hiding behind the curtain, and had an invisibility blanket over my head, so she didn't realize she was the object of my scrutiny.
